Timor-Leste to Participate in the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo

DILI, 15 July 2025 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste has confirmed its participation in the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo following the signing of a Letter of Intent (LoI) between its Embassy in the Republic of Korea and the Expo Organizing Committee.

On Tuesday, Timor-Leste Embassy in Seoul, Ambassador António de Sá Benevides welcomed received a courtesy visit from Jong-ki Kim, Secretary-General of the Expo Organizing Committee, and Chul-Ju Park, Ambassador for International Relations of Jeollanam-do Province, along with other accompanying delegates.

The purpose of the visit was to formalize cooperation through the signing of a Letter of Intent (LoI) between the Embassy of Timor-Leste and the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo Organizing Committee.

This Letter of Intent reflects the shared commitment of both parties to strengthen collaboration and maintain open channels of communication in preparation for Timor-Leste’s participation in the upcoming Expo.

Scheduled to take place from September 5 to November 4, 2026, in Yeosu, Republic of Korea, the World Island Expo will serve as a global platform to celebrate island cultures, promote sustainable development, and encourage international exchange among island nations and territories.

 Ambassador Benevides expressed his sincere appreciation for the invitation and welcomed the opportunity for Timor-Leste to contribute to the Expo. He also conveyed his gratitude to the Organizing Committee for its efforts in fostering meaningful international partnerships.
