Baucau, 14 december 2022 (TATOLI)– The United States( U.S.) Chargé d’Affaires Tom Daley joined officials from the Timor-Leste Ministry of Education, the President of the Municipal Authority of Baucau, the Chief of Bahu Village, the Land Component Commander of Baucau, and the Engineering Commander officially inaugurating a new three-classroom primary school in Baucau.
The three classrooms are constructed by the U.S. Navy Seabees and Marines with the support of seven F-FDTL Engineers.
The statement seen by TATOLI stated that the project is the 105th project constructed or rehabilitated by the Seabees since 2009 with a total fund worth $250,000.
“This school stands as a testament to what our joint partnership and cooperation can achieve in pursuit of the development of Timor-Leste’s future leaders,” said U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Tom Daley.
“The dedicated men and women of our U.S. Navy Seabees worked tirelessly on this project, putting their hearts and souls into the work over the last five months. To the students, I encourage you to jump into your studies and work hard for yourself, your families, and your communities. Our shared future depends on your success.” he added.
The school will accommodate over 90 students and each classroom will compose of 30 students.
So far, The U.S. Navy Seabees have constructed or rehabilitated over 100 clinics and schools throughout Timor-Leste to help build a better future for the Timorese people.
In the spirit of mutual friendship, the Seabees have completed projects valued at more than $50 million over the last 13 years.
They have had a continuous presence in Timor-Leste since 2009, rotating groups of American military engineers every six months.
