DILI, 19 May 2026 (TATOLI) — Woodside Energy’s Executive Vice President Technical and Energy Development, Julie Fallon, and Senior Vice President for Greater Sunrise, Paul Sullivan, met with Timor-Leste Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão on Monday to discuss technical and strategic progress on the Greater Sunrise project.

Fallon told reporters after the meeting that discussions focused on recent progress in negotiations over the Greater Sunrise project, while Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão stressed the importance of advancing the project in a timely manner.

When asked about the status of the project and the production sharing contract, Fallon said collaboration between Woodside’s technical teams and Timor-Leste’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources was progressing well.

Fallon said that tenders were being launched for studies and other necessary work related to negotiations under the Maritime Boundaries Treaty, adding that the processes were progressing well and that all parties remained committed to completing them as quickly as possible.

When asked about alignment among the joint partners ahead of future trilateral meetings, Fallon said there was broad agreement among the companies, although some technical and commercial issues still remain unresolved.

Fallon also addressed the economic concept study for Greater Sunrise completed in 2024 by Wood Group, which independently assessed several options for processing natural gas from the field.

Fallon said the study examined the development of the Timor LNG project on Timor-Leste’s south coast, as well as options in Darwin, including the construction of new liquefied natural gas facilities at existing sites or the development of a new processing plant.

According to Fallon, the study found all options assessed could be commercially viable, although each carries specific risks requiring further analysis before a final development model is selected.

The Greater Sunrise project, located in the Timor Sea, has long been viewed as central to Timor-Leste’s plans to diversify its economy beyond declining revenues from existing oil and gas reserves.
