DILI, 08 august, 2020 (TATOLI)- The Association of Asia Nation (ASEAN) will celebrate it’s 53 anniversaries in August 8, 2020, that chaired by Viet Nam with the Theme of “Cohesive and Responsive ASEAN”
“It is appropriate that the theme this year highlights ASEAN commitments to uphold unity, solidarity and centrality while enhancing the capacity to embrace the opportunities and effectively address emerging challenges,” According to the press release.
ASEAN today continues to provide peace, security and stability in the region while fostering economic development, contributed to social progress for its people also expanded the Treaty of Amity and Co-Operation (TAC), which is crucial in promoting peace, amity, and cooperation among inter-state relations.
“Economic cooperation is fundamental to ASEAN, whereby the regional total Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has more than doubled from US$1.6 trillion in 2008 to US$3.0 trillion in 2018,”
“A similar trend was observed for the ASEAN GDP per capita which has reached US$4,601.3 in 2018, compared to 2010 at US$3,299.3,”said
ASEAN has grown into becoming a full-fledged association with a combined GDP of at least US$3.0 trillion, making it the 3 rd largest economy in Asia and the 6 th largest in the world.
On health, ASEAN believed that the efforts and resources of each national health system should be geared towards protecting and improving the health of the people of which health expenditure as a proportion of total GDP has risen between 2005 and 2017.
ASEAN has also strengthened its national responses and regional cooperation by implementing the measures to stand still and fight against COVID-19.
“Reducing barriers to trade and investment, combating gender-based inequalities and protect the rights of the children, accelerating health in the region by ending all forms of health relations, Establishing COVID-19 ASEAN Response Fund and Developing an ASEAN Comprehensive Recovery Framework, these are the implementing measures” underline in the statement.
During 36th ASEAN Summint on 26 June 2020, The ASEAN leaders have affirmed their commitment to alleviate the adverse impact of the pandemic and also Adopting the Ha Noi Plan of Action on Strengthening ASEAN Economic Cooperation and Supply Chain Connectivity in Response to the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the important role of the private sector in the post-pandemic recovery efforts.
ASEAN also looked forward to the convening of the ASEANEconomic Community (AEC) and ASEAN Socio-CulturalCommunity (ASCC) Pillars FFM to Timor-Leste, when circumstances allow.
In Spite Timor-Leste State and Government has detail preparation on three important pillars such as Political Security (APSC FFM), Economic Community (AEC) and Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC).
