DÍLI, august 8 2020 (TATOLI) – The massive explosions rocked Beirut on Tuesday, damaging Timorese honorary Consulate which is close to where the explosions occurred.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Timor-Leste Adaljiza Magno revealed that the Timorese honorary consulate in Beirut, Lebanon was partially damaged, fortunately the blast was not caused any injuries to the employees.
“I have received the information regarding the minor damage caused by the explosions. We should offer our solidarity to our employees because we pay them nothing. They work voluntarily,” Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Adaljiza Magno said.
Ms. Magno recalled that the representative of Timorese Consul, Joseph Issa, as well as his assistants are of Lebanese origin, have been representing the country since 2005.
She also recalled that Timor-Leste government has expressed its solidarity to the Government and the Lebanese people, following the violent explosions that occurred last Tuesday.
Thus, she also extends her heartfelt sympathy and condolence on behalf of Timorese people and government, to the families and friends of victims of the recent devastating explosion trough the official letter written to Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrant, Lebanon His Excellency Charbel Wehbe.
“The Lebanese people are resilience and courageous people and I have no doubt that the republic of Lebanon and its people will recover from this totally unexpected calamity, our thought and prayers are with Lebanese Government and its people during this challenging time” Ms. Magno statement in the letter written to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Beirut, Lebanon, His Excellency Charbel Wehbe.
Ms. Magno stressed the importance of Timor-Leste expressing its solidarity due to the fact that Timor-Leste has had a strong and close diplomatic relationship with Lebanon since 2005.
In Spite The massive explosion that hit the port area of Lebanon’s capital caused seismic waves equivalent to a 3.3 earthquake on the Richter scale, causing numerous material damage in nearly half of the city, more than 100 fatalities and more than 5,000 injured and approximately 300,000 displaced.
