DILI, 16 october 2020 (TATOLI)—The Representative of the World Food Program (WFP) in Timor-Leste, Dengeng Liu congratulates Timor-Leste Government for its efforts in taking short-term response measures during the COVID-19 crisis.
“I congratulate the Government of Timor-Leste for its efforts in taking short-term response measures during the covid-19 crisis to prioritize the needs of the poorest and most vulnerable households by its no regret investment in social protection programs, such as the social cash transfer program that targeted low-income households and the food baskets program planned for the coming months,” Dengen Liu speech as the Representative of UN Resident Coordinator in Timor-Leste, and Representative of WFP and FAO to Timor-Leste on the occasion of WFP at the Dili Convention Center (CCD).
Thus, the UN in Timor-Leste stands ready to support the Government of Timor-Leste through establish the policy measures and laws that support sustainable food system on nutrition, decent employment and land protection.
Second prioritize innovation and digitalization to improve the food system and the livelihoods of farmers and food chain workers.
Third to promote climate-smart agricultural practices and lastly to support smallholder agricultural produces and other Food Heroes by helping them to respect safety concerns, while promoting market alternatives like-ecommerce.
“we had a big pleasure to witness the accession of Timor-Leste as a member of the Scale Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement. The SUN is a global effort to eliminate all forms of malnutrition under the principle that everyone has a right to food and good nutrition,” he said.
