Ministry of Education announces schools to be resumed next week

DILI, 12 january 2021 (TATOLI)— The Ministry of Education has announced that all the students and professors will return to schools on 18 of january to prepare for the enrolment and the orientation for the new students in Timor-Leste.

The Director-General of the Basic Education, Apolinário Serpa Rosa said Ministry of Education demand the school to be resumed from Kindergarten to high school to continue their classes.

“The Ministry of Education has suspended the classes, despite after three days he made a revised on his declaration, because there was no statement underline on the document approval by the council of minister regarding the suspension of the classes but it requires the schools to continue impose with the measure implemented during the state of emergency,” Apolinário Serpa Rosa told Tatoli via phone.

According to the traditional calendar before the classes, the schools will also give the orientation to the new students from the basic level of education and the high school education from January 13 to 15, 2021.

Schools are required to comply with the emergency measures including social distance, wearing masks, and washing hands during the school activities.

According to Mr Serpa, The Ministry of Education will put the priority on the schools located near the land border particularly schools that are located in Bobonaro, Batugade, Covalima and Oe-Cusse Region by means of providing the prevention facilities to students during the school process.

“We still have 77,000 masks to distribute to students, and we will continue to asks for the support from the partners to make sure all the school receive the covid-19 prevention facilities,” he said.
