DILI, 26 january, 2020 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste Defense Council and the State Council discuss with the President of Republic, Francisco Guterres Lú Olo regarding the evolution of the epidemiological situation in the West Timor, Indonesia, and concern about the possible spread of covid-19 in Timor-Leste.
Advisor to the Presidency of the Republic Gregório de Sousa said the Health situation in West Timor, Indonesia continue to be worsened due to rise in the number of coronavirus infections as well as the number of death.
“We are very concern because it could directly affect Timor-Leste,” Gregorio de Sousa told the journalists after the meeting.
According to Mr Sousa, both councils are very concerned about the situation in the neighboring Indonesia, which is why they believe that it is necessary to move forward with the extension for the state of emergency.
Sousa added that, President Lú Olo has coordinated with the Parliament to schedule a date for plenary session next week to discuss the declaration of the new state of emergency.
“The Presidency of the Republic will forward the request to the parliament to schedule a debate on the extension of the state of emergency,” he said.
He said, the both council have fully support Lú Olo in the renewal of the state of emergency for another 30 days. He also recalls that, the President of Republic has early received a letter from the Government request for the extension of the state of emergency.
