DILI, 3 february, 2021 (TATOLI) – One hundred Timorese will participate in the training for natural resource management and horticulture at the National Center for Employment and Professional Training (CNEFP) in Tíbar.

The objective of the training is to improve the knowledge and experience of the participants in these areas, through theoretical and practical classes, in addition to making the young people aware of the importance of natural resources.

“We intend to develop their capacities and strengthening their commitment to be alert to land degradation”, Resident Director of International Conservation in Timor-Leste, Manuel Mendes statement.

The activity is funding by the Global Fund for the Environment, is promoted by Conservation International and the CNEFP, in collaboration with the State Secretariat for Vocational Training and Employment (SEOPE) and the National Institute for the Labor Development.

It is also highlighted the initiative of the activity in motivating young people to get directly involved in the management of Timorese environmental resources.

“We encourage young people to have direct contact with the environment and sensitivity to maintain its quality and sustainability from now on, “Mendes said.

According to the document, the first phase of the program will start at CNEFP in Tíbar with young Timorese from the Fahilebo, Leorema, Lihu and Ulmera juices, while the second will be offered to trainees from the Uacala, Baricafa, Larisula, Bahatata, Irabin de Cima and Cainliu.

According to Mendes this initiative has many advantages, as young people are the future of this country and they will continue to lead the management of a sustainable environment in Timor-Leste.

“We hope that in the future they can share the knowledge with other members of their community, influencing them to take care of the environment”, he said.

The Vice-Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Abílio Xavier Araújo, acknowledged that Timor-Leste is still short of human resources in the area of ​​natural resources management, thus highlighting the importance of this training.

The Secretary of State for Vocational Training and Employment, Alarico Rosário, was, in turn, committed to maintaining full support for CNEFP so that training can be offered to young Timorese, especially in environmental management, so that they can guarantee and protect the environment and natural wealth.
