WHO recommends use of Oxfords/AstraZeneca vaccine in Timor-Leste

DILI, 12 ferbuary 2021 (TATOLI) – The World Health Organization (WHO) recommended the Government of Timor-Leste to use the AstraZeneca vaccine in Timor-Leste, cited that the WHO scientific study showed limited effectiveness against mild forms of COVID-19.

Speaking to the Journalists from TATOLI, Arvind Mathur, said organization has carried out a scientific study in relation to the three vaccines such as vaccines of Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca.

WHO also updated to the Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak regarding the advantages and disadvantages from every vaccine against covid-19.

“WHO recommended that Timorese state to use the AstraZeneca’s because it is more advantageous than the other two, especially with regard to its conservation and price. Now, it will be up to the Council of Ministers to make the final decision”, said Arvind Mathur, at the Government Palace today.

Mathur stressing his team also introduce and explained the differences between the three vaccines to the Prime Minister also regarding the transportation, distribution and the storage for the vaccine.

According to him, the purposed of the meeting was to discuss the procedures to be used in the execution of the National Vaccination Plan in Timor-leste.
