Lú-Olo requests authorization for the extension of the State of Emergency

DILI, 29 march, 2021 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, Francisco Guterres Lú-Olo, request the Authorization of the National Parliament for the extension of the state of emergency, based on the Government’s request and after the hearing with the members of the Council of State (EC) and the Superior Council for Defense and Security (CSDS).

“With regards to the number of active cases that continue to rise within the country, therefore the members of the two councils recommended the extension of the state of emergency”, said the Advisor to the President of the Republic, Gregório Sousa.

The Government requested the President of the Republic to extend the state of emergency between April 3 and May 2.

The purpose of the Government’s request is to control the further spread of the virus in the country and to minimize the import of new covid variants.

The measures to be implemented the in the state of emergency were approved by the Government for the protection of public health, implying the suspension and limitation of the rights to freedom.

Among the current measures, there are the implementation of the sanitary fence and mandatory confinement in Viqueque, Baucau and Dili.
