DILI, 28 april 2021 (TATOLI)– The United States Embassy in Timor-Leste donates 20 items of medical devices to the Government of Timor-Leste Integrated Crisis Management Office to support Timor-Leste’s in the fight against covid-19.
This support is a part of the U.S’s ongoing support for Timor-Leste’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
During the Pandemic the American doctors at the University of Rhode Island converted CPAP machines used to treat breathing problems into a new form of oxygen treatment for covid-19 patients.
This equipment will allow the health professional and the front line to providing oxygen therapy to the patient will likely be needed.
This Equipment is handed over by the United States Ambassador to Timor-Leste Charles Kevin Blackstone and the Head of the Defense Cooperation, Major Pablo Valerin to the Brigadier, General ‘Aluk’ Descartes.
“The US offers this equipment to The Government of Timor-Leste to help the country response to COVID-29, these items have a proven track record of treating COVID-19 patients in the U.S and will provide health care experts with a range of treatment options as we battle this pandemic together,” Ambassador Kevin Blackstone said in a statement released on Wednesday.
These items are provided by the University of Rhode Island and The National Guard of Rhode Island, take part in a State Performance Plan (SPP) that was established between Rhode Island and Timor-Leste.
SPP is A Security Cooperation Program of The United States Defense Ministry, related to the National Guard from a State or territory in the U.S with the armed force, security forces, or the Governmental Agency from the countries of the partnership to respond to emergency and disasters.
This program has been running for 27 years to offers cooperation relationships, and advantages for both parties and will apply for the long term among every State in the U.S and partnerships countries in the world.
With the arrival of this project, has the addition of $1.6 million that the U.S commitment to support Timor-Leste to battle the pandemic and with the initial amount is $2 billion, from the total plan of $4 billion, to help the advance appointment/commitment for the COVAX market, which will distribute the COVID-19 vaccine for more than 90 countries including Timor-Leste.
