Australia offers two Australian Specialists to provide technical assistance on disaster response risks

DILI, 05 may 2021 (TATOLI) – The Australian Government offers two Australian specialists to work with the Secretary of State for Civil Protection (SSCP) in the disaster response  risks.

General-Director of Secretary State for Civic Protection, Sup. Ismael Babo said that the two specialists, one is a specialist for the emergency management to respond to the natural disaster, mobilize the resources with effectiveness and efficiency. And another is a Civil Engineering specialist, who will conduct the study for the areas risking natural disaster.

“These specialists will work with the Secretariat State for Civil Protection for six months to give the technical assistance on the natural disaster and emergency response,” he said

The reason Timor-Leste needs assistance from Australia, since Australia, has overcome many huge disasters such as inundation and cyclones.

Thus the two experts will share the works with civil protection to increase the capacity towards the real situation and to be more prepared for the future.

“We appreciate that we can work together to share about the local ambient, the adjustment to improve the preparation in the future and also the treatment that we provide to the community today,” he said.

During this time, the Unites State Organisation, and other international partnerships, and civil society have been working together with SEPS to assist in disaster prevention and taking the data of the families affected by the natural disasters.

Following the reports from the Ministry of State Administration (MSA), about 33. 177 families have been affected by the disaster, from that number, almost 99% families in Dili and 10% from other municipalities.

However around 25,000 families were affected by the disaster and around 24,000 houses were slightly damaged, 553 were moderately damaged and 554 were severely damaged,
