Australia provides 220 refugee hoods to the victims Affected by Natural Disaster in Timor Leste

DILI, 08 may 2021 (TATOLI) – Australian Government provides 220 refugee hoods to the Timorese government to be distributed for the victims affected by the flood on April 4, 2021.

The 220 tarpaulins were shipped via My Jet Xpress Airlines from Malaysia and landed at the President Nicolau Lobato International Airport at 14:30, and were available through the cooperation between International Organizations of World Food Programme (WFP) based in Malaysia.

Shortly after the support was the arrival, The General Director for the Secretary State of Civil Protection, Sup. Ismael da Costa Babo thanked the Government of Australia for the support provided for the victims of the natural disaster in Timor-Leste.

“On behalf of Timor Leste’s government, I extend my deepest appreciation to the Government of Australia for made this support available to be distributed to the victims of natural disaster. These hoods will be used by the victims while waiting for their homes to be recovered,” Said Ismael Babo to the journalist at Comoro Airport, Dili, this Saturday.

Mr. Babo added that the team from the WFP will provide the technical assistant to assist the team from the SEPS to put up the hoods for the flood refugees.

according to Babo, the SEPS will distribute the hoods to the victims whose houses were encountered severe damage.

Following the report from SEPS, around 21.676 families were affected by the recent natural disaster and 7.246 were forced to evacuate and 41 were confirmed dead.
