DILI, 07 june 2021 (TATOLI) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MNEC), Adaljiza Albertina Xavier Reis Magno, and the Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak met today to discuss Timor-Leste’s preparation to participate in the Summit of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP), which will take place on 17 july, in Angola.

“Today we discussed the CPLP Summit that will take place in Angola next month. So, we talk about the possibility of the Prime Minister and President of the Republic to participate in the summit,” Magno made the comments after meeting the Prime Minister at his residence, in Farol-Dili, today.
She said if the President of the Republic, Francisco Guterres Lu Olo would decide to participate in the event, then as a Foreign Minister, she would accompany President Lu Olo with a delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MENK) to attend the summit in Angola.
Magno said the next CPLP summit would focus on discussing the free movement of the people between the eight member states of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP).
“In the next CPLP Summit, we will talk about the free movement of all nationals of the Member States of the CPLP. After the summit, all the nationals from the CPLP countries will have the right to move freely within the states of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP). Such as, students can go and study in any other CPLP countries without any visa requirement and so on,” said Magno.
She said when the summit was concluded, bilateral cooperation between the CPLP states members was crucial to implement the free movement policies of the CPLP citizens.
Magno said during the meeting they also discussed the preparation of the former Foreign Minister Zacarias Albano, who was chosen by the government of Timor-Leste to be the next Executive Secretary for CPLP, saying he was the first Timorese, representing Timor-Leste to assume the position.
