MNEC-Portugal Embassy sign MoU to strengthen the cooperation

DILI, 10 june 2021 (TATOLI)-Timor-Leste and Portugal sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen the cooperation between the two nations in all aspects.

The MoU has signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MNEC), Adaljiza Magno, and the Portugal Ambassador to Timor-Leste, José Pedro Machado on policy consultation” in Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Praia dos Coqueiros, on Thursday.

After the signing of this MOU, the Portugal Ambassador to Timor Leste José Pedro Machado declared that the signing of this MOU was very important to strengthen the cooperation and better friendship between the two countries at the regional and global levels.

“The cooperation relationship between Timor-Leste and Portugal has been good for a long time, but for the bilateral relationship must be strengthened again through the signing of this MOU,” said Portugal Ambassador Machado after the signing ceremony at the MNEC.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Adaljiza Magno said that the purpose of signing this policy agreement is that Timor Leste and Portugal can hold a dialogue mechanism regularly every year.

“Portugal is a very important working partner. The cooperation between Timor-Leste and Portugal has been carried out for a long time, therefore the signing of this MoU will strengthen the cooperation relationship better in the future,” said Ms. Magno.

Magno explained that Portugal and Timor-Leste use the same language, “therefore Portugal has helped us in various fields such as the education sector, justice, defense sector and other sectors which Timor-Leste and Portugal are still doing,” she said.

According to Ms. Magno, both countries need a regular dialogue, thus Timor-Leste and Portugal took the initiative to make a memorandum of understanding and today have signed together to engage in a high-level o dialogue because Portugal has been supporting Timor-Leste during its struggle for independence until now.
