DILI 10 june 2021 (TATOLI)– The Ambassador of the Philippines to Timor-Leste, Laser Sumagaysay said, The Philippines Embassy in Dili will honor Philippine Independence Day with a flag-raising ceremony on Saturday, June 12.
Ambassador Sumagaysay said The Government of the Philippines has permitted all the embassies serving overseas to fly the flag and conduct the community pantry activities.
“The flag-raising ceremony will be held on Saturday 12, to commemorate the events of 123 years ago but before the celebration of Philippines independence day, Our Embassy will conduct a Community pantry on june 11 for local people and Filipino in Timor-Leste at a different time,” Ambassador Sumagaysay told Tatoli reporter at the Philippines Embassy on Thursday, in Farol Dili.
According to Ambassador the Community pantry for local people would be opened at 10:00 -12:00 and would be continued by the Filipino community living in East Timor.
The objective of the Community pantry is to provide mutual aids and help each other out not treat others like they are charity cases, at this point Ambassador stressed that the Philippines Embassy will provide basic food such as rice, noodle, vegetables, milk, vitamins, face masks, canned goods, and many other items under the capabilities of the Philippine embassy in Timor Leste and will ask the participants to get the goods to depend on their choice.
“The items will not be distributed directly to the person concerned, but the local community and the Filipino community are encouraged to take the items according to their choice,” said Mr. Sumagaysay.
At the same time, Ambassador said, due to covid-19 the celebration will only be organized in the Philippines Embassy in Farol Dili.
The Philippine Declaration of Independence was proclaimed on 12 June 1898. With the public reading of the Act of the Proclamation of Independence of the Filipino People; Filipino revolutionary forces under General Emilio Aguinaldo proclaimed the sovereignty and independence of the Philippine Islands from the colonial rule of Spain.
