DILI 14 june 2021(TATOLI)– The General Director of the Ministry of Foreign and Cooperation (MNEC) for the ASEAN Affair Milena Rangel said Timor-Leste will continue its political efforts to become an ASEAN member despite the country is still facing COVID-19.
“We continue to do the work, we even informed them about the current situation in Timor-Leste. We hope at the end of this year the results will be good after both pillars Economic Community (AEC) and Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) are conducting their fact-finding mission to Timor-Leste” Shes said
She added that MNEC has regular contact with the ASEAN Secretary through a virtual application, WhatsApp, and other applications.
She said however the current situation in Myanmar has also become difficult for a member of states to pay attention to this issue.
“We all keep up with the current situation in Myanmar, causes all the ASEAN country members to pay attention to the situation, therefore the fact-finding mission can be postponed to next year, due to the pandemic and the situation in Myanmar,” she said.
