DILI, 16 june 2021 (TATOLI)-The national Non-Governmental Organization PERMATIL receives financial support from the French Cooperation Agency (FCA) in Timor-Leste. The signing of a financial support agreement for PERMATIL worth 21.000 US dollars took place yesterday.
The Director of the Non-Governmental Organization PERMATIL, Ego Lemos, said that the support is aimed at conserving water throughout the territory.
The program is known as ‘Permakultura”. “The financial support is intended to train young people throughout the territory in the technique of water conservation and will acquire equipment such as swollen ai-suak, among others to dig the earth,” PERMATIL Director, Ego Lemos told to Tatoli Agency, today.
Mr. Lemos stated that the training begins in september with young people from six municipalities such as Dili, Ainaro, Aileu, Manatuto and Viqueque and Suai. The agreement between FCA began last year and will continue annually.
The official said that the support is also aimed at buying food for the groups that are formed who work voluntarily in the water conservation program.
Lemos recalled that last year PERMATIL had the support of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) worth US$27 thousand for the same program.
In 2018, PERMATIL had the support of the Secretary of State for Youth and Sports to train young people in the horticultural, agricultural, livestock and water conservation areas in 13 municipalities.
The director underlined that the program was successful in 2018, hence the population has presented the request for PERMATIL to help in this conservation area.
PERMATIL asks the population to plant specific trees such as cedar, kiar, boron and others near the water sources.
Mr. Lemos stresses that Timor-Leste faces natural disasters, climate change and El-Nino, so it needs to conserve and rehabilitate the water source that has been damaged and nature like planting trees.
PERMATIL asks the population to protect all nature and requests all people to take care of the environment with the prevention of cutting down trees and killing animals. It is most important for the people to conserve spring water. Timor-Leste faces natural disasters for lack of human conscience.
PERMATIL is a local organization rolled to a conservation of water and land which has existed since march 01, 2001 to present.
During its existence, PERMATIL has advocated and campaign about the conservation of water and has strengthen the cooperation together with the Ministry of Public Works (MOP) through the direction of the water and sanitation, Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MAP) including the Secretary State of Environment (SEA) to address the subject of waters.
