COVID-19 update: Timor-Leste reports 46 new cases, 131 recoveries and active cases at 900

DILI, 24 june 2021 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste, today, registered 46 new cases of COVID-19, with 131 recoveries, and the active cases were 900.

Of the new cases, 29 were detected in capital Dili, while the rest were detected in the municipalities, including 1 each in Baucau and Bobonaro, and 5 each in Covalima, Manatuto, and Viqueque municipality.

The spokesperson of CIGC, Dr. Rui Maria de Araujo said that of the 46 new cases, 4.3 percent were symptomatic.

Araujo said of today’s cases, 45 were between the age of 12 and 59 and 1 elderly person over 60. These new cases were made up of 32 men and 14 women.

Araujo added 17 patients were under treatment at Vera Cruz Isolation Center and 1 patient was in critical condition.

The ICMC also today recorded another death from Covid-19 in capital Dili.

Araujo said the deceased was a 57-year-old man from Maliana, in Bobonaro municipality. The patient had been suffering from TB, asthma, and fever, and experiencing breathing problems and coughing for three days before being diagnosed with the Covid-19. He was transported from Maliana Referral hospital to Vera Cruz Isolation Center on June 15 and died today.

Since yesterday, the National Health Laboratory (LNS) has performed 770 PCR tests, including 2 sentinel surveillance tests, 9 through contact tracing, 69 via random screening, 638 were carried out following the request for travel authorization out of capital Dili, 4 for the international travel authorization and 48 in quarantines.

The evolution of the COVID-19 in Timor-Leste, the incidence rate of coronavirus is, on average, in the last week, of 4.2 per 100 thousand inhabitants, while in Baucau municipality 11.4, Dili 8.0 and Manatuto 7.8.

The CIGC reiterated its call on communities to practice the health and safety guidelines recommended by the Ministry of Health and the WHO to continue combating the spread of the virus in the country despite the ICGC’s records showing a slight drop in cases over the past few weeks in the capital Dili and some municipalities.

There has been a total of 8.889 lab-confirmed cases of the virus in Timor-Leste, with 7.966 recoveries, active cases were 900 and 20 deaths, according to data of the CIGC.
