Twenty journalists attend Investigative Reporting Training in Maubisse

DILI, 21 April 2026 (TATOLI) – Twenty journalists from across Timor-Leste are attending a specialized training program on investigative journalism in Maubisse, Ainaro, aimed at strengthening reporting skills and improving the quality of news coverage.

The training, organized by the Press Council, runs until April 24 and brings together participants from both print and broadcast media, including Tatoli, Rádio e Televisão de Timor-Leste, Suara Timor Lorosa’e, Hatutan and Rádio Comunidade Mauloko.

Press Council adviser Joaquim Coutinho said the program is designed to strengthen journalists’ technical and analytical capacities, particularly in producing in-depth investigative reports.

He said the training aims to give journalists practical tools and methods to strengthen investigative reporting, helping them produce more accurate, rigorous and high-quality news.

He added that it is important for participants to apply what they learn in their day-to-day work.

The sessions are led by Lestantya Baskoro, a journalist from Indonesian media outlet Tempo, who is sharing experience and best practices in investigative journalism.

Participant Natalino Ximenes said the initiative is important for professional development, describing it as a “valuable” opportunity to strengthen skills in investigative reporting.
