President Ramos-Horta advocates for unity and dialogue during audience with Yemeni delegation

DÍLI, 03 September 2026 (TATOLI) – President of the Republic José Ramos-Horta, received a courtesy visit from a delegation representing Yemen at the Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace in Dili. Accompanied by the General Secretary of the g7+ Secretariat, Hélder da Costa, the delegation is undertaking a five-day study mission in Timor-Leste to engage with sovereign state organs and draw lessons from the nation’s successful peacebuilding and post-conflict recovery experience.

During the meeting, President Ramos-Horta shared key insights into the diplomatic negotiations and reconciliation efforts that paved the way for Timor-Leste’s independence and lasting stability.

The Head of State urged the visiting delegation to uphold unity and champion inclusive, constructive dialogue among all Yemeni parties, underscoring that overcoming protracted conflict requires empathy, compromise, and a shared dedication to the national interest.

Speaking after the audience, the Head of the Yemeni Delegation, Al-Qasimi, expressed deep gratitude for the President’s wisdom and extensive experience in international mediation.

He noted that the delegation felt profoundly inspired by Timor-Leste’s journey, affirming that peace is always achievable when all sides are willing to set aside pride and commit to meaningful dialogue.
