The U.S. Embassy already donated  $17,000 to HMDTL

DILI, 01 july 2021 (TATOLI) – The Executive Director of Visual impairment in Timor-Leste (AHDMTL), Gaspar Afonso said that since AHMDTL was established on 1 July 2011 until today, the AHMDTL has received a fund donated from the United States Embassy in Timor-Leste with the amount of $17,000.

“US Embassy in Timor has donated $17,000 to AHDMTL in 2018 and it has been implemented in corresponding with the AHDMTL ‘s program,” said Afonso told TATOLI recently at his office.

He explained that the funds had been used to conduct a training program for local leadership authorities in seven subdistricts in Municipality.

“The training was to establish the ethics and procedures for accepting people with disabilities who manage documents at the village office without any discrimination,” He said.

According to Mr. Afonso, the training already benefited 280 local leaders in Covalima, and every subdistrict was composed of 40 participants.

Concerning the support, Affonson on behalf of his organization expresses the deepest gratitude to the US Embassy in Dili.

“On this occasion, on behalf of AHDMTL, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the US Embassy in Timor Leste for the donation made available to AHDMTL,” he said.

He added that AHDMTL plans to continue the training for disabled people in other districts and hoping for another donation from the US Embassy to continue this program in the future. 

“We plan to conduct this program in other municipalities, but there is no budget yet, we hope that the new US Ambassador will donate the fund for AHMDTL in the future,” he said.
