DILI, 02 july 2021 (TATOLI) – Japan’s maritime self-defense force training squad will arrive in Dili tomorrow with a training cruise for Japanese junior officers.
“The visit will arrive in Dili on july 3rd from Indonesia and will depart for the Philippines on july 5th,” says Yoshikazu Ishimaki, in the statement that TATOLI had accessed to today.
Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force overseas Training Cruise Commander and Rear Admiral Yoshikazu Ishimaki said this is a training cruise for Japanese junior officers who have just graduated from the Officer Candidate School.
“It is a great pleasure for Timor-Leste for the first time and the overseas Training Cruise makes a stopover in Dili. The aims of newly commissioned officers to acquire their basic knowledge and skills on board ships, broaden their global visions and foster friendship with the countries they visit.
I sincerely hope that this scale further develops mutual understanding, defense cooperation and bilateral relations between Timor-Leste and Japan,” says Yoshikazu Ishimaki. Also in the document, the Japanese Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Masami Kinefuchi, says that the visit will strengthen ties and friendship between two countries in the future.
“I am pleased to welcome the Training Squadron’s visit to Timor-Leste. Japan and Timor-Leste have cultivated friendly relationships for more than 20 years through Peacekeeping Operations (PKO) and nation-building activities as well as exchanges. In addition, the Japan National Defense Academy accepts two Timorese cadets every year.
I am confident that this landmark event will further strengthen our bonds and friendship in the future,” he says. In addition, Lieutenant General of the Commander of the Defense Forces of Timor-Leste (F-FDTL) Lere Anan Timur, reveals that this visit would be an unforgettable experience in the history of both nations.
“I am pleased to welcome the Japanese Navy officer cadets. We hope that your visit to Timor-Leste will be an unforgettable experience, and always remember the name of our country Timor-Leste. This is not the end but just the beginning. I hope you have an enjoyable journey and inspire your future by visiting Timor-Leste,” he says.
According to the note, through this training, junior officers must put into practice the knowledge and spirits acquired at school and prepare to be future leaders of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) and at the same time, promote relations with the countries who visit.
The document recalls that this overseas training cruise has been held every year since 1957 and this year’s cruise is its 65th.
