HSK program in Aldeia Terminal has been completed

DILI, 08 july 2021 (TATOLI) – United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Representative Kim Youngchan informed that today, the Hamutuk Serbí Komunidade (HSK) initiative held a closing ceremony in Terminal Aldeia, Suco Camea, Cristo Rei, Dili.

“UNDP, local authorities and community members are celebrating the great success of the HSK initiative at Aldeia Terminal,” said Kim in Becora, Aldeia Terminal to Journalist of TATOLI News Agency on thursday.

He added that in Aldeia Terminal, 133 residents took the initiative to clean houses and public facilities affected by flooding in Aldeia, including roads and drainage.

Each individual works for 22 days and earns 5 USD per day (total USD 110).

HSK is an emergency work initiative for communities affected by the april 04 floods in the Municipality of Dili, as part of the “Flood Response and Recovery Assistance Project” funded by the Government of Timor-Leste, ADB, Asia Pacific Disaster Response Fund funded by the Government of Japan, Government of the Republic of South Korea and UNDP with $1.4 million.

The HSK initiative aims to benefit more than 5.000 people who will receive cash for their work removing debris and repairing basic community infrastructure in more than 50 Aldeia affected by the april 04 flood in Dili City.

UNDP does the imitation by working closely with various government agencies, in particular with the Minister of Finance, the Minister of State Administration, the State Secretary for Manpower Education and Training, the State Secretary for the Environment, and local governments.

As of 08 july 2021, more than 1.000 vulnerable people (449 women) from more than 10 flood-affected Aldeias in Dili City have benefited from this initiative with emergency job opportunities.

This initiative also benefits more than 37 local weavers (33 women) who produce Timor hats and brooms by procuring goods from them.

Based on HSK’s plan, this will be continued in Dili Dom Aleixo, Comoro by next week.

In the same place the representative benefited from 133 people, Manuel dos Santos said the HSK program was very good because through HSK our village was clean and beautiful, therefore we hope this program can be continued in the future.

“We thank UNDP, for hiring us even if only for 22 days for a total of $110 for each person but with this money is very valuable because with this, we can use this money for our needs in several days,” said Santos.
