The decree-law was approved following the renewed compensation fund set up by the Ministry of Finance, to compensate those victims who suffer disabilities and death after receiving the Covid-19 vaccines.

Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Fidelis Manuel Leite Magalhães said the decree-law had been approved previously through the meeting of the Council of Ministers, held on june 23, 2021: “But there were slight changes had been made by the Ministry of Finance, and it is approved today.”

“The amount of the financial assistance that will be given to patients who experience rare condition after taking COVID-19 vaccinees remains the same,” Magalhães made the comments at the Government Palace, in Dili, on Wednesday.

Magalhães said the risk of a patient getting the rare side effects of the COVID-19 vaccine is very small, but saying the compensation is still there for any community members who experience disability and death after receiving the Covid-19 vaccine.

“Based on the decree-law, if a patient experiences a rare case of disability with 30% to 70 % caused by the covid-19 vaccine, then the patient will get US$2.100 as compensation. in addition, if the patient experiences disability with 70% caused by the Covid-19 vaccine, then he or she will receive US$7.000. If a patient was died after receiving the vaccines, then US$ 10.000 would be given to the family as compensation,” said Magalhães.

The Health Ministry and Professional Health Workers were assigned a huge responsibility to conduct the investigation and verify all the data to decide whether the patient is eligible to receive the compensation, affirmed Magalhães.
