MEJD deploys around 2.595 intern teachers for internship teaching

DILI, 22 july 2021 (TATOLI) — The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MEJD), today, deployed around 2.595 teachers for internship teaching at elementary and middle schools across the country.

The 2.595 had been studying for a bachelor’s degree in teaching program for three years, since 2018.

“Today MEJD held an opening ceremony of the teaching internship program for these 2.595 teachers, who had been doing teaching programs for elementary and middle schools for three years now. MEJD in collaboration with UNTL and Infordepe facilitated 70 lecturers from UNTL and eight lecturers from Infordepe for teaching these teachers in all municipalities” The Minister of Education, Youth and Sports (MEJD),  Armindo Maia, told reporters at the office of Infordepe, in Dili, today.

“The duration of this teaching internship program is three months. During these three months, these teachers would apply all of the knowledge that they had been learning in the past three years,” said Maia.

In addition, the Rector of UNTL, João Soares Martins said that the program is important for the teachers to fulfill the requirements of the MEJD, which demands all school teachers to hold at least an associate or bachelor degree.

“We are very grateful for the trust that the government put on us in facilitating lecturers to contribute to this teaching program, and until now these lecturers are still committed to continuing teaching,” Martins said.

At the same place, Daniel de Araújo, one of the teachers who had been teaching at one of the Ataúro Island schools said doing the bachelor program was important to level up his knowledge.

“I am very grateful because, with this program, we can increase our knowledge and experience in teaching. We are always advised to prepare lesson plans in advance before teaching the students under this intensive teaching program,” said Araújo.

The teaching internship was launched with the participation of the 252 teachers in Dili entitled: ‘High-quality teaching profession as a way to promote the academic success of students in Timor-Leste.
