COVID-19 update: Timor-Leste records 148 new cases, 66 recoveries and active cases at 736

DILI, 28 july 2021 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste, today, registers 148 new cases of COVID-19, with 66 recoveries, and the active cases were 736.

Of the new cases, 123 were detected in Ermera municipality, 18 in Dili, while the rest were identified in municipalities, including three in Manufahi, two in Baucau, and one each in Ainaro and Covalima.

The spokesperson of SIJK, Dr. Rui Maria de Araujo said of today’s cases, 33.1 percent were symptomatic.

He said of today’s cases, 142 were between the ages of 12 and 59, including three children under 12 and six elderly persons over 60. These new cases are made up of 68 men and 80 women.

Araujo informed that 18 patients were under intensive treatment at Vera Cruz Isolation Center, where three patients were in critical condition.

In the last 24 hours, the National Health Laboratory (LNS) has performed 961 PCR tests, including 56 sentinel surveillance tests, 458 through contact tracing, two via random screening, 387 were carried out following the request for travel authorization out of capital Dili, 28 for the international travel authorization and 30 in quarantines.

The evolution of the COVID-19 in Timor-Leste, the incidence rate of coronavirus is, on average, in the last week, of 3.6 per 100 thousand inhabitants, while in Dili 4.3, Ermera 18.8, and Viqueque 2.0.

The CIGC reiterated its call on communities to practice the health and safety guidelines recommended by the Ministry of Health and the WHO to continue combating the spread of the virus in the country despite the ICGC’s records showing a slight drop in cases over the past week in the capital Dili and some municipalities.

There has been a total of 10.535 lab-confirmed cases of the virus in Timor-Leste, with 9.773 recoveries, active cases were 736 and 26 deaths, according to data of the Ministry of Health.

In Timor-Leste, of the 754.864 eligible groups, 277.953 (36.8%) had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.  Of the number, around 89.286 (11.83%) have also received their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Delta Variant Cases                             

The spokesperson of CIGC, Dr. Rui Maria de Araujo informed that so far Timor-Leste had recorded four cases of Covid-19 Delta variant in the country, saying the four cases were detected on july 14.

“Of the 300 samples of the Covid-19 cases sending for urgent test in the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and immunity, in Melbourne, Australia, indicated that four cases of Delta variant were detected.

Araujo said that the four patients entered Timor-Leste from Indonesia, on june 26, saying one had been fully recovered, while three others are still remained isolated: “So far, we haven’t had any evidence of local transmission of the Delta Variant in the country.”
