DILI, 04 august 2021 (TATOLI) – The Government of Timor-Leste, through the ordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers, had approved today the alteration of the decree-law of the wages supplement.
With the new alteration of the decree-law, the government will pay the Public Administration officials who had been working directly as essential front-line workers in the fight against the Covid-19.
The salary supplement would be in the range of US$5.00 – 25.00 a day, depending on the risk facing by each public official.
The Minister of the Presidency for the Council of Ministers, Fidelis Manuel Leite Magalhães informed that based on the new alteration of the decree-law, the list of the public administration officials would be re-evaluated to include those officials who had been performed their duties by exposing themselves to the risks of coronavirus infection.
“With the new alteration, the technical staffs of Covid-19 vaccine, prison officers, gravediggers, and others are included in the new salary supplement list,” said Magalhães.
He said the budget of the salary supplement is part of the Covid-19 budget.
Magalhães said the decree-law was put into force on April 30, 2020: “The right of the public official to the salary supplementary is extended to 31 December, this year.”
Earlier this week, the Minister of Finance, Rui Augusto Gomes informed that the decree-law would be re-submitted to the President of the Republic after its approval by the Council of Ministers.
Last month, the President of the Republic vetoed the decree on salary supplement for front-line workers.
The veto will further delay, and indefinitely, the payment of salary supplements to all frontline workers involved in combating the covid-19 pandemic in recent months, when the country experienced the most intense period of the disease.
Last year, the government established the decree-law on the remuneration supplement to make the payment for the frontline workers, including doctors, army forces, police officers, electrical technicians, journalists, and so on.
