COVID-19 update: Timor-Leste records another death, 54 new cases

DILI, 08 august 2021 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste, today, registers another death, 54 new cases, 19 recoveries, and the active cases were 1.335.

Of the new cases, 36 were detected in Dili, while the rest were identified in municipalities, including eight in Bobonaro, six in RAEOA, two in Baucau, and one each in Manufahi and Viqueque municipality.

The spokesperson of SIJK, Dr. Rui Maria de Araujo said of today’s cases, 37 percent were symptomatic.

He said among the new cases, 48 were between the ages of 12 and 59, including three children under 12, and three elderly persons over 60. These new cases are made up of 26 men and 28 women.

Araujo informed that 25 patients were under intensive treatment at Vera Cruz Isolation Center, where three were in critical condition, two in moderate, 20 in mild condition.

He said the SIJK also today recorded another death from Covid-19 in the capital Dili.

Araujo said the deceased was a 67-year-old man living in Bebonuk, Dili. He was diagnosed with Covid-19 on august 7 and transferred to the Vera Cruz Isolation Center on the same day. Apart from Covid-19, she had been suffering from End-stage renal failure, which is the final, permanent stage of chronic kidney disease, where kidney function has declined to the point that the kidneys can no longer function on their own. He died last night at around 9.45 pm local time, due to respiratory failure and multiple organ failure.

In the last 24 hours, the National Health Laboratory (LNS) has performed 243 PCR tests, including 40 sentinel surveillance tests, 63 through contact tracing, 11 via random screening, 119 were carried out following the request for travel authorization out of capital Dili, and 10 in quarantines.

The evolution of the COVID-19 in Timor-Leste, the incidence rate of coronavirus is, on average, in the last week, of 6.1 per 100 thousand inhabitants, while in Ermera 19.8, Dili 9.2, Covalima 6.3 and RAEOA 6.0.

The SIJK kept calling on communities to practice the health and safety guidelines recommended by the Ministry of Health and the WHO to continue combating the spread of the virus as the ICGC’s records showed cases are mounted in Ermera municipality.

There has been a total of 11.529 lab-confirmed cases of the virus in Timor-Leste, with 10.127 recoveries, active cases were 1.375 and 27 deaths, according to data of the SIJK.

In Timor-Leste, of the 754.864 eligible groups, 42.1 percent had received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, of which 14.7 percent have also received their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Delta Variant Cases

Timor-Leste’s health authorities recorded 12 cases of the SARS-CoV-2 Delta variant in Ermera municipality.

“Of the 20 samples of COVID-19 confirmed cases sending for urgent test in the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and immunity, on july 29, in Melbourne, Australia, indicated that 12 cases of Delta variant were identified in the Ermera municipality,” Araujo said in a statement, today.
