The Secretary of State for Youth and Sports (SEJD), Abrão Saldanha said that the main objective of the visit was to encourage and motivate these youth entrepreneurship groups to keep up their good work.

“Don’t be ashamed to do these farm activities. You can make a lot of money through horticulture and poultry farms. For instance, a group of youth horticulture entrepreneurship in Baucau produced a lot of tomatoes. They sell their tomatoes here in Manufahi too. So, I want you to keep up your brilliant initiative and good work. It is not necessary to work in an office after studying agriculture, horticulture, and animal farm,” Saldanha made the comments after visiting the Integrated Action Group, in Holarua village, in Manufahi.

At the same place, the coordinator of the Integrated Action Group (GAI), Nazario da Silva thanked SEJD for visiting his fishery horticulture, and poultry farm.

“There are seven of us who were initiating this group, consisting of three women and four men. You know, due to the family economy, our parents cannot afford higher institutions to further our education. As the fresh graduates of the vocational-technical school, we created this group to apply all the knowledge and skills that we learned during our Vocational-Technical school,” said Silva.

“I would like to ask SEJD to help us with financial support so that we can better develop our horticulture, fishery, and poultry farm,” said Silva.

In addition, Salvador Amaral da Silva, the coordinator of the Joburla Youth Horticulture and Poultry Farm said: “As young people, we don’t need to waste our time, but creating a group to do valuable things. So, in 2017, we begin this group with the support of the SEJD.”

“We started up with poultry farm, but later on we turned into horticulture because we had some difficulties with growing local chicken. The support that we got from SEJD in 2017 was farming equipment and etc. Every year we got up US$500,” said Silva.
