JICA offers Health Service Supports to Timor-Leste

DILI, 13 august 2021 (TATOLI)- The Consultor of Japan International Cooperation Agency(JICA) in Timor-Leste, Emilio dos Santos informed JICA is committed to supporting Timor-Leste in the Health sector, particularly in the prevention of COVID-19.

JICA has been helping Timor-Leste Since 2017, by sending its two Japanese volunteers to support the work in the area of Pharmacy and provide the medical service in SAMES.

Emilio said JICA will continue to support the Timorese government in the prevention of COVID-19.

Mr. Santos added that JICA has also established cooperation with SAMES in the human resource area including the technical area to provide the Cold Chain Supply System used for storing the vaccine in the good condition.

“JICA has offered one Cold Boxcar and 15 of mobile cold storage to facilitate SAMES for transporting Vaccine across Timor-Leste territories,” Santos said.

In addition, JICA will provide another eight mini trucks, three trucks, one of cold box vehicle, and four forklifts to the Minister of Health, saying these materials will arrive soon.

At the same time, Santos said, JICA has also offered training to the SAMES staff on how to properly use the cold box for storing the vaccine and other medicines.

The support provided by JICA is a reflection of JICA’s commitment to supporting the Government of Timor-Leste particularly in the battle against covid-19.
