The activity provides an opportunity for children to interview the 2021 Timorese Olympic athletes who were recently participated in the 2021 Tokyo Olympic, Imelda Ximenes Belo, and José Fonseca João Viegas.

“The activity is intended to empower children and allow them to gain experience by interviewing 2021 Olympic athletes,” The representative of Care International in Timor-Leste, Alison Darcy told TATOLI at the Timor-Leste National Olympic office in Kaicoli, no 17, august, this Tuesday.

Ms. Darcy said that the organization had previously conducted the same activity with another famous artist Maria Vitoria and the spouse of Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak, Isabel Ferreira, among others.

Imelda Ximenes Belo, a swimmer athlete is delighted to be part of this activity saying these children have shown the motivation to fulfill their dream.

“We share our swimming experience in Tokyo. We feel fortunate that the children are inspired by what we have done,” Belo said.

During the interview Imelda explained, every stage of her journey to success, sayingto become a famous and professional athlete needs more effort, hard-working and most important time management.

“I start my swimming skills when I was very young, but I had no dream to become a famous athlete, at that time I lived with my aunt and my uncle in Dili while my parents were in Baucau municipality, so we should have the responsibility for our time, manage our time for studying and practice with all our heart, She said.

She also said, that she had no dream and had no expectation to become a professional athlete however she was motivated by her friends after she became part of the ASIA scholarships program.

“When I was a kid, I had no dream to become a famous athlete, but after joining the ASIA scholarship I got motivated by my friends and I was inspired to bring Timor-Leste to join in any international competition abroad,” she said.

during the Interview Imelda call on all the Timorese youth to promote their talent, by working hard, learning, and practice to grab the opportunity for participating in any competition held nationally or internationally.

at the same place, Santos suggested that Care International should continue to organize the Lafaek Learning Media project to enhance the skills of children.

“Many children have dreams, but they are still afraid, therefore this activity is very useful for them,” she said.

The interviewer, Patricia Natália Claver Urbano, is also very enthusiastic and inspired by the experiences from the athletes, saying these athletes inspire them to become one of them. 

“I am happy to have the opportunity to meet with these athletes, as they offer their time to talk with us, they inspired us to develop our ability to become one of them,” she said.
