DILI, 18 august 2021 (TATOLI) – The  Representative and Country Director of the World Food Program (WFP), Dageng Liu called on humanitarian workers, frontline workers, and other relevant entities to be well prepared for the upcoming natural disasters to save and provide assistance to those people in need.

“Everybody has a role to play. On World Humanitarian Day, I would like to call on all entities for action in responding to future disasters. The humanitarian day is a national race against the climate crisis, which means the climate change threat is increasingly affecting the daily life of everybody. We are in the race against the climate crisis, we can’t leave anyone behind.” Liu told TATOLI at WFP’s office, in Caicoli, Dili, today.

“We have to be better prepared for the future natural disaster, such as La Niña, El Nino, Heavy Rain, Floods, Forest fire, and so on,” he affirmed.

Liu said each year, WHD focuses on a theme, bringing together partners from across the humanitarian system to advocate for the survival, well-being, and dignity of people affected by the crisis, and for the safety and security of aid workers.

Everybody has a role to play to bring climate change to a manageable manner.

“This year, we highlight the immediate human cost of the climate crisis by pressuring world leaders to take meaningful climate action for the world’s most vulnerable people. WHD is a campaign by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and humanitarian partners,” said Liu.
