COVID-19 update: TL records another death, 361 infections

DILI, 25 august 2021 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste, today, reports another death, 361 infections, 124 recoveries, and the active cases were 4.052

Of the new cases, 270 were detected in Dili, while the rest were identified in the municipalities, including 28 in Baucau, 12 in Bobonaro, 10 in Ainaro, eight each in Manatuto and Viqueque, seven each in Covalima and Manufahi, six in RAEOA, four in Lautem and one in Ermera.

The spokesperson of SIJK, Dr. Rui Maria de Araujo said 38 percent of today’s cases were symptomatic.

He said among the new cases, 272 were between the ages of 12 and 59, including 65 cases under 20 and 24 elderly persons over 60. These new cases are made up of 171 men and 190 women.

Araujo informed that 71 Covid-19 cases had been admitted to Vera Cruz Isolation Center for intensive treatment, with 23 people in critical condition, five of whom required ventilation.

In the last 24 hours, the National Health Laboratory (LNS) has performed 758 PCR tests, including 147 sentinel surveillance tests, 152 through contact tracing, 68 via random screening, 306 were carried out following the request for travel authorization out of capital Dili, 57 for the international travel authorization, and 28 in quarantines.

Today, SIJK registered another death in Timor-Leste.

The deceased was a woman in her 50s, who was diagnosed with Covid-19 on august 23 and admitted to the vera Cruz Isolation Center on the same day. She had one underlying condition and passed away today at around 09.10 am local time.

The evolution of the COVID-19 in Timor-Leste, the incidence rate of coronavirus is, on average, in the last week, of 23.2 per 100 thousand inhabitants, while in Dili 55.8, Covalima 29.7, Manufahi 25.4, Baucau 19.8, Ainaro 11.8, Manatuto 10.7, and RAEOA 8.3.

The SIJK kept calling on communities to practice the health and safety guidelines recommended by the Ministry of Health and the WHO to continue combating the spread of the virus as the SIJK’s records showed cases are again mounted in Dili, Ermera, and several municipalities.

Health authorities had warned that the Delta variant had already spread in the communities, calling on citizens over 18 to get vaccinated: “Vaccination is the only way to combat the Covid-19.”

There has been a total of 15.296 lab-confirmed cases of the virus in Timor-Leste, with 11.192 recoveries, active cases were 4.052 and 52 deaths, according to SIJK’s data.

In Timor-Leste, of the 754.864 eligible groups, 49.8 percent had received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, of which 24.1 percent have also received their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
