DILI, 27 august 2021, (TATOLI) – In Timor-Leste, 50.9 percent of the eligible population (754.864) had received a least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccines.
The 50.9 percent represented a total of 576.044 eligible population, of which 25.4 had been fully vaccinated, according to the Ministry of Health’s Covid-19 vaccine distribution and administration data tracker.
Of the 12 municipalities, including RAEOA, Dili has the highest percentage of its population fully vaccinated against COVID-19. As of today, (27/08), 73.4 percent of the eligible population in Capital Dili had received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, of which 55.9 percent are fully vaccinated.
Meanhile, Covalima municipality ranked as the second-highest among the municipalities, with 62.5 percent of the eligible population had received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, and 15.5 percent of the population had received two jabs.
The enclave OeCusse was third in the list, with 62 percent of the eligible population had received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, of which 13.8 percent are fully vaccinated.
Ainaro municipality has a very low vaccination rate overall, only 23.2 percent of the eligible population had received at least one dose of the vaccine, and 9.8 percent had been fully immunized.
The spokesperson of the Inter-Ministerial Commission for the Covid-19 Vaccine, Dr. Danina Coelho urged the citizens over 18 to get vaccinated amid the drastic spike of Covid-19 cases and deaths in the recent weeks.
She said vaccines will help to raise the immune system of the communities to protect themselves from severe infections and deaths from Covid-19.
“We don’t have enough space to accumulate the patients with severe conditions, impacted by the Covid-19. The Majority of the Covid-19 deaths were unvaccinated citizens, therefore, I urged the citizens over 18 to get vaccinated,” said Coelho.
Recently, 37 cases of Delta variant had been reported in Timor-Leste, consisting of 15 cases from Ermera municipality and 22 cases in Dili.
Coelho called on citizens to keep practicing good healthy habits, by washing hands regularly and thoroughly, wearing face masks, and maintaining social and physical distancing.
In addition, the Head of Dili Municipal Health Services, Agustinha Segurado informed that professional health workers at the 29 Vaccination Centers across Capital Dili are available every day to continue carrying out vaccination campaigns to get unvaccinated citizens to receive their jabs.
There has been a total of 15.960 lab-confirmed cases of the virus in Timor-Leste, with 11.529 recoveries, active cases were 4.373 and 58 deaths, according to SIJK’s data.
