Health authorities say vaccination campaign continues during mandatory confinement

DILI, 27 august 2021 (TATOLI) — The Ministry of Health, through the Head of Dili Municipal Health Services, Agustinha Segurado informed that professional health workers at the 29 Vaccination Centers across Capital Dili are available every day to continue carrying out vaccination campaigns.

In Timor-Leste, of the 754.864 eligible groups, 50.9 percent had received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, of which 25.4 percent have also received their second dose.

While in Dili, 73.7 percent of the eligible population had received at least one jab of the Covid-19 vaccines, and 56.6 percent are fully vaccinated.

“I would like to inform citizens in Dili that we have 29 vaccination centers across capital Dili. These vaccination centers will remain open during the mandatory confinement. Therefore, I called on the communities in the capital to get vaccinated,” Segurado told reporters in Dili, today.

She said due to the movement of public transports was halted during the mandatory confinement, adding, therefore, the Ministry of Health will cooperate with the head of villages to gather unvaccinated communities to get vaccinated in the village office.

“So far, we have seen the vaccination rate is rising in Capital Dili. This is part of the work and collaboration between the vaccination centers and the head of the villages across capital Dili on raising the awareness of communities about the threats of the Covid-19 and the vaccination was the only way to combat this pandemic,” she said.

She affirmed that vaccination centers will be opened from monday to saturday.

“Many of the medical health workers had been tested positive with Covid-19, but it doesn’t mean that we have to stop the vaccination campaign and other health services. We have enough human resources to keep carrying out the vaccination in all 29 vaccination centers,” she added.

In addition, the spokesperson of the Inter-Ministerial Commission for Covid-19 Vaccination Campaign, Dr. Danina Coelho called on citizens over 18 to get vaccinated as the Delta variant had been widely spread in the communities.

Recently, 37 cases of Delta variant had been reported in Timor-Leste, consisting of 15 cases from Ermera municipality and 22 cases in Dili.

There has been a total of 15.603 lab-confirmed cases of the virus in Timor-Leste, with 11.344 recoveries, active cases were 4.203 and 56 deaths, according to SIJK’s data.
