DILI, 27 august 2021 (TATOLI)- President of the National Parliament Aniceto Longinhos Guterres Lopes, said the popular consultation of 30 august of 1999 was a day of political victory for all the people of Timor – Leste.
He added that 22 years ago, on August 30, 1999, the people of East Timor voted for freedom and also a day that paved the way for independence from Indonesia.
“August 30, 1999, is a day of political victory for Timor-Leste and the day that people of Timor Leste decide their future,” Guterres told reporters in the National parliament this Friday.
This year Timor-Leste will not celebrate its referendum day amid covid-19, however, the PPN continues to ask all the citizens to remember this day as the important day for today and the future.
“Let us reflect and pay the tribute to the soul of our heroes who fought for the freedom of the motherland from the colonizers so May the heavenly host guide them in peace,” said Guterres
