State of Emergency allows large events and gathering

DILI, 09 september 2021 (TATOLI) – The Government of Timor-Leste, through the extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers, had approved the first alteration of the government decree-law 21/2021 regarding the execution of the measures of the nation’s 17th state of emergency.

The nation’s 17th state of emergency is in force between 00:00 hours on august 31, 2021, and 23:59 hours on september 29, 2021, and applies to the entire national territory.

“The alteration of the decree-law allows the resumption of the religious, political, social, cultural and sports events and other large gatherings. But, citizens are demanded to follow the Covid-19 prevention measures,” the Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Fidelis Manuel Leite Magalhães told reporters after the extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers, at the Palace of the Government, in Dili, today.

“These measures of the state of emergency include frequent hand hygiene, physical and social distancing, respiratory etiquette, and use of masks if ill or attending to someone who is ill.”

He said citizens are demanded to keep a minimum distance of at least two meters to limit the risk of interpersonal transmission.

“The funeral ceremonies involving the participation of more than 10 people are allowed but citizens must follow the Covid-19 preventive measures and regulations,” said Magalhães.

He said the organizers of the aforementioned events should inform Timorese National Police (PNTL) beforehand, saying PNTL would monitor any events to ensure people follow the regulations.
