DILI, 17 September, 2021 (TATOLI)- Plan International in Timor-Leste has conducted a campaign for Timorese Girls to get the equal right to access online with freedom.
PITL has conducted a campaign to support Timorese girls to be able to get the freedom to express their ideas, opinions and share experiences which give a positive impact on their life.
This campaign is provided to avoid Timorese girls from bullying, body shaming, sexual harassment, and other mores while accessing the online.
It is requested more time to encourage girls to be self-confident in expressing positive ideas online that can be benefited and give impact on their life.
The Specialist of Gender and Inclusion, Antonieta Maia said that PITL is fully supported the Timorese girl to get freedom for accessing online, it is contributed to the life development impact that accessible for positive thinking.
“PITL has conducted researcher on finding the right for Timorese girls to access any kind of online application with freedom. It is to identify the kind of information that they access from the online media and also observed the information affected to their life,” The Specialist Gender and Inclusion, Antonieta Maia told Tatoli, at Bairru grills, this Thursday.
The girl’s take over on International Day is a call to action for radical social and political change to tear down barriers of discrimination and prejudice that continue to hold them back.
PITL is celebrated International Day for Girl 2021, and to send out a message about the positive use of online learning and to call for attention on the exposure to the misinformation and disinformation. PITL will continue the campaign for freedom online phase 2 focused on online learning as what Plan International is doing globally.
In addition, PITL also continues with Girls Take over activities with prominent leaders, ambassadors and media, discussion, and sports in Dili, Aileu, and Ainaro.
Ms. Maia explained that PITL’s survey is based on global Internet use which was indicated that young women find threats and abuse, so the organization is launching an online survey on the platform at http://ee.kobotoolbox.org/x/ 3Upe8vfH for young women to share ideas through social media.: “the research can help young women in freedom and equality,”
Based on the Plan International survey 26.000 girls from 26 countries have been affected by the misuse of social media such as bullying, body shaming, sexual harassment, and more.
