MTTI launches guidance book on developing local tourism sites in TL

DILI, 19 september 2021 (TATOLI)-The Ministry of Tourism, Trade, and Industry (MTTI) together with five chiefs of villages from four different municipalities launched the ‘Turizmu Komunitariu’ or community tourism guidebook.

The minister of MTTI, José Lucas do Carmo da Silva said that the guidebook is provided to explain how to improve the community’s economy on the establishment of a tourism development center at the villages level which brings a positive impact for the community surrounding through the contribution for the tourism sector.

“This guidance book is required to ensure this program will be effectively carried out in the villages levels. The books help for the guidance on empowering the local community to be well developed on the community tourism program,” The minister of Tourism, Trade and Investment said in his remarks at the MTTI office in Farol Dili.

There are five villages qualified based on the potential of local tourism areas, which can be adjusted for the pilot program. They are comprising of Maubisse and Nunumoge villages from Ainaro Municipality, Uaimori village from Viqueque Municipality, Uailili village from Baucau Municipality and the last is Seloi village from Aileu Municipality.

Minister José also requested for the working actors who have received the responsibility for developing this program should use this guidebook to bring success for this program for the community tourism development in other villages.

At the same place, the Chief of Uailili Village, Hernani de Jesus Araújo, thanked the government for the opportunity, especially MTTI, for this opportunity to turn the Ualili village became one of the community tourism centers.

“Uailili village has a lot of potential for tourism such as culture, pilgrimage also including others in the Uaisaragi, Laclo and Neulali areas. But the obstacle we get for the road infrastructure is not accessible,” he said.

The Head of Uaimoritula Village, Francelino António Gomes, appreciates the confidence that offered. However, the recommendation is for the road improvement on connectivity to tourism areas.

It is recalled that the government had launched the same program in other areas such as Com in Lautém Municipality, Bandeira river waterfall in Ermera Municipality, Marobo hot springs in Bobonaro municipality, Rekiraka in Viqueque municipality, Seloi Kraik in Aileu municipality.
