WFP and SSCP renew Cooperation in the food chain system

DILI, 22 september 2021 (TATOLI)—The World Food Program (WFP) and the State Secretariat for Civil Protection (SSCP) renewed cooperation by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand the commitment in supporting TL strengthening the food chain system.

WFP country director in TL, Dageng Liu said the signing of the MoU was to formalize the important partnership and joint commitment in some parts that the WFP needs to strengthen the sustainable food and supply chain system.

“Based on WFP’s experience and position as a supply chain leader in emergency response, this MoU will focus on building local-level capacity that can function effectively and sustainably. This will involve strengthening the response operations of local actors by providing technical assistance to the supply chain for emergency preparedness and response mechanisms and supporting the policy framework,” WFP, Dageng Liu in his remarks, at the Hotel Timor, this tuesday.

He added that this MoU would also be including the support for the national logistics sector to further strengthen local coordination mechanisms: “WFP looks forward to working with SSCP and other lines ministry to increase national capacity on emergency preparedness”

It hopes for a strong partnership to adapt national social protection programs and social safety nets for more responsive to shocks and inclusive that covers the essential needs of food and nutrition before and after disasters and crises.

Secretary of State for Civil Protection (SEPS), Joaquim José Gusmão dos Reis Martins said so far WFP has assisted SSCP in responding to the disasters that have happened in the last april. Thus, MoU was signed to formalize and reinforce the Cooperation that has been established.

“This agreement will increase cooperation, on natural disaster responses, that Timor-Leste might be faced a disaster in the future,”
