Government-GMPTL-PITL realize one-day national symposium on election

DILI, 29 september 2021 (TATOLI) – The Government of Timor-Leste, through the Secretary of State for Equality and Inclusion (SEII), together with the Women’s Parliamentary Group of Timor-Leste (GMPTL) and Plan International Timor-Leste (PITL) realized a one-day national symposium on election entitled: ‘Futuru Prezidente Ba Ita Hotu’, to boost women’s participation in the next presidential election.

The President of GMPTL, Lidia Norberta dos Santos said that the national symposium is a continuous program of the previous workshop that was realized on september 27 on strengthening women’s participation in the next presidential election.

GMPTL is the umbrella for all parliamentarian women: “GMPTL is committed to support and strengthen the participation of women in politics to contribute to the national development.”

At the same place, the Country Director of PITL, Daliana Ximenes said that the realization of the national symposium was a good opportunity for women to share experience and knowledge on the 2022 Presidential Election.

“It is such as a good opportunity to share with each about competing and assuming the important role as the President of the Republic as well as a local leader. We discuss how to preparing Timorese women to lead this nation in the future, not only becoming a future president but also to lead at the national and local level,” said Ximenes.

In addition, the President of Timor-Leste’s National Elections Commission (CNE), Agostinho da Costa Belo affirmed that CNE and the Technical Secretariat for Electoral Administration (STAE) are ready to realize the 2022 Presidential Election.
