“It is an honor for me to visit the Timor-Leste news agency because I can get to know your work and share some questions about the policy of self-determination of our people, which is similar to that of the Timorese people,” Boibait Malainin Boibuat told today margin of the meeting, in Tatoli, in Farol.

Boibuat also asked Tatoli to publish articles about Morocco’s occupation of Western Sahara since 1976.

According to Boibuat, even though “the Saharawi people want to resort to a referendum to determine their full independence; they are always failed by Morocco”.

The Executive Editor of Tatoli, Rita Almeida, said that the agency is available to cover informative content on the activities of the embassy, especially about “the right to full self-determination for this people”.

“As a state news agency, our doors are always open. We are available to cover your activities and are ready to broadcast them to the public, especially the Timorese”, he said.

The Vice-President of the Directorate Council for Journalistic Affairs and the Media of Tatoli, Xisto Freitas da Piedade, considers, in turn, that the struggle of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic for its independence is an issue of global importance.

“Information about the independence of the Saharawi people is a common subject. So let’s categorize it in international news. Tatoli will face the issue within the scope of news elaboration and not politics”, he underlined.

Xisto Freitas also guaranteed the agency’s availability to disseminate information about the country and become a permanent partner of the Embassy of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic in Timor-Leste.

The meeting was also attended by the Coverage Coordinator, Rafael Ximenes de Assis Belo, and the Tatoli Editorial Secretary, Agapito dos Santos.

It is recalled that the President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, Francisco Guterres Lú Olo, in his message addressed to the 75th Session of the UN General Assembly, expressed concern about the self-determination of the Sahrawi people and considers that “the mission of the United Nations shows little satisfactory progress”.

The Head of State, therefore, asked the UN to urgently appoint a Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General to the country to accelerate the negotiations, finding a solution that guarantees “these people the exercise of the right to self-determination”, under the Charter of the United Nations and other relevant Resolutions.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Adaljiza Magno, said that, although Timor-Leste has not yet signed an agreement with the Saharawi Arab Republic, it continues to support its full independence.

It should be remembered that the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic is a former Spanish colony, which proclaimed, on February 28, 1976, its independence. However, about 80% of its territory is currently controlled by Morocco.
