MFCA collects $45 million in revenue during nine-month

DILI, 10 october, 2021 (TATOLI) – The Ministry of Finance’s Customs and Excise Authority (MFCA) has collected revenue of $45 million or $45,882,007.2 to be exact during the nine months between January to September in this year.

“All of this income comes from import duties, selective consumption and sales taxes, including fines,” the Customs Commissioner, José António Fatima Abílio to TATOLI, in his office at the Government Palace.

Mr. Abilio added that the total import tax collected was $9,804,867.23, compose of selective consumption tax which was $24,983,383.17, sales tax was $10,851,530.06, fines (PEN) were $101,636.31, and other fees were $47,055.32, Import Duties $93,534.93.

He said that since January, the revenue increase from imports and is mostly composed of necessities, medicines, as well as building materials, furniture, and vehicles such as motorcycles and cars.

“The number of second-hand vehicles is mostly imported which is recorded by the customs authority,” he added.

According to Abilio, some depositors often play with prices due to a lack of attention and control from the inspection authority (AIFAESA) because during this pandemic the prices of goods were depending on customer demand not following the price standards.

During the pandemic, the extra items materials demanding decreased greatly, especially the constructions materials.
