DILI, 18 october 2021 (TATOLI) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MNEK), Adaljiza Albertina Xavier Reis Magno said, Timor-Leste is waiting for the approval letter from Myanmar before sending the country Envoy to Myanmar.
Magno said, until now Timor-Leste designated Ambassador to Myanmar had not been received the approval letter from Myanmar due to the internal conflict in Myanmar that threaten to spread from the border regions to the entire country.
She said the same situation was also experienced by other countries which said the missions of the previous diplomats had been completed but those countries could not send new diplomats to carry out diplomatic missions.
“There is still gray area for the situation in Myanmar, Timor-Leste is not only a country waiting for approval letters but there are many countries as well. Therefore if the situation remained the diplomatic mission will be continued to run by the previous Ambassador” said Adaljiza.
Previously, in July, August, and October this year, the President of the Republic, Francisco Guterres ‘Lu Olo’ swearing in the 14 new Ambassadors, for multilateral and bilateral missions. All of them have carried out diplomatic missions in the countries they are intended for.
For now, The ambassador designated to Myanmar is still waiting for the inauguration consisting of one bilateral mission, namely the TL Ambassador for the Republic of Myanmar Unity, Antonito Araújo who was appointed to replace João Cámara who had ended his diplomatic mission.
