Horta calls on Timorese to raise awareness on reconciliation and contribute to Peace in TL

DILI, 27 october, 2021 (TATOLI)- The Nobel Peace Prize and Former President of Timor-Leste José Ramos Horta called on all Timorese to raise awareness on reconciliation to contribute to Justice in Timor-Leste.

The message was conveyed during the reconciliation workshop held by the Chega National Commission (CNC) aimed to share ideas on building the justice and peace solution on internal conflict affected by consequences of country independence.

The Laureate Novel Peace Prize, José Ramos Horta shares his experience on involvement to contribute to the Reconciliation process of peace establishment is very fragile countries especially in Africa region.

Mr. Horta recognized that the reconciliation process must be ongoing for a decade depending on the history of conflict and the development context of the countries involved. It was evidence of a country like Timor-Leste gained mutual Independence has sacrificed many people’s life.

“The reconciliation Process must be ongoing to ensure a country like Timor- Leste can be considered all support from the victims would not be vain,” The Former President of Timor- Leste and the Noble Peace Prize, Jose Ramos Horta told reporters at the CNC meeting room, in Balide, on 27 october, this Wednesday.

He encourages CNC Institution to work in efforts to prove that all Timorese people are deserved for the justice through reconciliation Process, saying the CNC data reports will be pedagogy to open people aware to contribute for justice.

The Executive Director, Hugo Fernandes said in Timor the Carnation Revolution opened the way for aspirations for freedom among the mostly young and inexperienced politically active. CNC is standing on the commitment to boost the reconciliation process to raise awareness of Timorese absolution to build peace and justice.

The story of reconciliation between Timor-Leste and Indonesia is remarkable for the process and its success. After gaining independence in 2002, the leadership of Timor-Leste prioritized the tolerance to forge a new relationship with its closes neighbor.

The initiative to heal the battle scars amongst its divided community. The process was supported by the Indonesian Government, which was bedding in the democratizing of politics and reforming its security institution.

According to Chega reports during the internal conflict in 1975 and the Indonesian occupation in Timor-Leste starting from 1075-1999, political organizations and the authorities who committed Violence, Arbitrary detention, torture, and persecution are the flowing:

  • UDT Party, during the internal conflict, UDT Detained 984 tortured, and Persecuted 747 people.
  • FRETILIN party, during the internal conflict, from 1976 to 1978 FRETILIN Detained 3,309 tortured and Persecuted 2,250 people.

It should be remembered that from 1975 until 1999, the Indonesian Military detained 12,212 people, while 8,890 people were Tortured.

There were Lots of blood and bodies spreading everywhere, since the Portuguese colonization period nearly 450 years in Timor-Leste. Indonesian occupation completely 24 years from 1976 to 1999 and also Indonesia Military and other supporters Detained 5,557 people, tortured and Persecuted around 2,880 people.

The reconciliation process is contentious to help Timorese people who suffered and those who are remaining living in neighboring country Indonesia to return to Timor-Leste.

The Timor-Leste laws enforcement needed to guarantee the refugee people to return to East Timor.

Everyone wants peace, stability and should put everything behind. If not, you will live under the trauma of the past. You will not see the future.
