Australia-Timor-Leste sign financial agreement for Rehabilitation of water installations in DILI

DILI, 11 november, 2021 (TATOLI)– The Government’s Ministry of Public Works (MPW) signs a financial agreement with the Australian Government to repair water installations in Dili.

Australian Ambassador, Peter Robert said this financial assistance was provided by the Australian government to help repair water installations in the capital city of DILI which were damaged by the floods last April.

“For its part, the Australian Government is providing A$4 million to help the Timor-Leste government improve water installations, this support is also to ensure an effective water supply for communities and areas with water shortages,” Australian Ambassador Peter Robert told Tatoli Agency in Novo Turismo, 11 novemeber

He added that the Australian government commits to support the government of Timor Leste since the country has been affected by floods and COVID-19.

” Since the country experienced natural disasters and COVID-19, the Australian Government has always provided water supply support to the most affected communities throughout Dili”

Mr. Robert said today Australia is coordinating with BTL to focus on rehabilitating water installations to provide clean water supplies for communities in DILI.

Minister of Public Works (MPW), Salvador dos Reis Pires said the agreement aimed to support the Timor-Leste government through the BTL for the rehabilitation and installation of the water system.

“A total of 4 AUD will be given to BTL for these projects,” he said

Technical support is provided by the Australian Government under CARNO engineers and unlimited engineering.

It is known that Engineers Without Border (EWB) and CARDNO have provided a virtual training focus on the Dili water rapid repair program for 26 Bee Timor-Leste (BTL) staff.
