Vaccination rate of children aged 12 to 17 reaches 8.3%

DILI, 11 november 2021 (TATOLI) – Around 15.002 (8.3) percent of 181.807 eligible children aged 12 to 17 in Timor-Leste had been vaccinated with the first dose of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine.

The Pfizer vaccination campaign was officially launched on october 27, by the Ministry of Health and Humanitarian Partners, at Basic School of 30 de Agosto, in Dili.

Spokesperson of the Inter-Ministerial Commission on COVID-19 Vaccination Plan, Danina Coelho says Timor-Leste has reached a new milestone in its Pfizer vaccine rollout, as the vaccination campaign for children ages 12 to 17 are now ongoing.

She said the Pfizer vaccination campaign had been administered so far in Dili, adding the campaign would be extended to schools in municipalities.

About 8.3 percent of people aged 12 to 17 are recently vaccinated in Timor-Leste. Comparatively, 51 percent of the adult age group, those older than 18, are fully vaccinated.

She said the recommended interval between the first and second dose of the Pfizer vaccine is 21 days.

Previously, the Minister of Health, Odete Maria Freitas Belo said the vaccine will protect school children against the worst effect of the Covid-19, including severe illness, hospitalization, and deaths.

On october 18, Timor-Leste received a total of 100.620 doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines, donated by the United States.
