CITL commemorate 16 days of global activism campaign of violence against women

DILI, 30 november, 2021 (TATOLI)- Care International Timor-Leste (CITL) celebrated 16 days of global activism campaign of violence against women and girls to reduce and eliminate gender-based violence against women in DILI and even other municipalities.

This 16 days campaign is a collective action held by civic society organizations, International actors, activists, and other stakeholders.

Care International Timor-Leste Country Director, Peter Goodfellow said the main purpose of this campaign is to increase the awareness for human attitudes in family and even the society level and can be contributed to the prevention of gender-based violence against women and girls.

Goodfellow said following the 2019 data record from CITL shows 59% of males continue to commit violence against their wives, adding, therefore, Care international expected everyone including the family and community can be challenged with norms and regulations to avoid gender-based violence in the future.

The Manager for the Gender quality program, Neliana Fatima De Sousa said that based on CITL data shows that DILI recorded a high number of violence against women, 334 cases have been registered since 2019.

Care International has the vision to fight against poverty and injustice in this Timor-Leste. It is also to eliminate violence against women and girls to bring hope and proper life for everyone especially for the vulnerable.
